The Faultline Story Arc

If you haven't run it already, do check out the Faultline story arc. The story is pretty good and the missions were fun. Its also nice to check out the scenery.

Below is a pictorial entry of my adventures in Faultline running as my Dark/Dark Tanker, Paradoxic. Enjoy!

Yes, the good doctor is much taller than me.

Looking for that boss to pwn.

Villainous propaganda!

Is he that wimpy, or am I just that awesome?!

A nice shot of the hideout interior.
The submarines are not shown, I already destroyed them =)

Guide: Positron TF Speed Run

I've been meaning to do this for some time now. Before you consider running the Posi TF Speed Run, please read this post on the team requirements.
  1. Mission 1: Test Your Mettle (Defeat Boss)
    • The leader stays with Posi while the team heads to the mission. Once in the mission, the Invis+TPer finds the boss, ports the teammate over for help (if necessary) and defeats the boss for a mission complete.
    • Vahzilok is the enemy in this mission.
    • Once both members exit, the team leader waiting at Posi can start the next mission right away.

  2. Mission 2: Save the FEMA Workers (Lead out 2 hostages)
    • This mission is best to fight through(quickly!) so that the team can lead the hostages back to the mission entry door.
    • There will be spawns after a hostage is freed
    • Circle of Thorn is the enemy in this mission. Their –accuracy debuffs may get annoying so packing some accuracy inspirations will help.

  3. Mission 3: Find a Piece of Clockwork that is Still Functioning (Find Clue, Defeat Boss)
    • The Invis+TPer goes to find clues & boss and ports the team over once the boss is found. Defeat the boss for a mission complete.
    • Clockwork is the enemy in this mission.

  4. Mission 4: Check out the Fake Company (Find Clue, Defeat Boss)
    • The Invis+TPer goes to find clues & boss and ports the team over once the boss is found. Defeat the boss for a mission complete.
    • Vahzilok is the enemy in this mission.

  5. Mission 5: Check out the Circle of Thorns Hideout (Find Clue, Defeat Boss)
    • The Invis+TPer goes to find clues & boss and ports the team over once the boss is found. Defeat the boss for a mission complete.
    • Circle of Thorn is the enemy in this mission.

  6. Deliveries
    • Player #1 heads to Positron (then stays there)
    • Player #2 goes to Atlas Park to see Azuria
    • Player #3 goes to Kings Row to see Paula Dempsy
    • Player #1 who is still at Posi, delivers last message

  7. Mission 6: Stop Zombie Boss and his Guards (Defeat Boss and Minions)
    • Patrol: Find the Clockwork’s Base of Operations
    • The team will be patrolling in Perez Park. The next mission will spawn here as well.

  8. Mission 7: Defeat all Villains in Office (Defeat All)
    • Clockwork is the enemy in this mission.

  9. Mission 8: Check out Possible Circle of Thorn Hideout (Defeat All)
    • COT is the enemy in this mission.

  10. Mission 9: Defeat all Villains in Sewer (Defeat All)
    • Vahzilok is the enemy in this mission.

  11. Mission 10: Protect the Substation (Defeat All)
    • This is the last mission! You will be fighting Clockwork, COT, and Vahz.

Stone Tanking in the Statesman TF

Ran a Statesman TF today as my Stone/Fire Tanker, Annzilla (I'm the green lizard lady sitting down).

The team consisted of mostly folks who never ran it before. You can imagine my anxiousness as the team leader. I really want it to be a good experience for folks and running a TF with the possibly of team wipes is not the ideal situation.

Needless to say, this run nearly could have been a Master of Statesman TF (with the exception of one death in the first mission). Yes, we kicked butt that much.

Its also worthy to note that I have never run the STF as a Stone Tanker before. I couldn't believe how freaking easy it was compared to running one an Invulnerability Tank. Stone Tanks got it easy. Seriously! I'm looking forward to running it as other Tanks. =)

Moving Again?

I apologize for my absence -again.

I do have several excuses:
  1. I'm busy playing issue 13, duh!
  2. I am once again entertaining the idea of moving this blog over to wordpress
The reason for #2 is because, if you haven't already noticed, the site looks like stinky poo poo. I really am no good with the blogger format. I admit, I haven't put a 100% effort in actually trying to theme it out due to having to write it in XML format. And as always, it does not nearly have the same level of customization as WP.

Decisions, decisions.

What do you think?

Introducing NeoGeode

That's right, I made a new Tanker. No surprise there given what I want to do (get all Primary tanking powers to level 50).

Although other people don't really have the same goal I do, with the Shields power being new, everyone and their mom rolled a new Shield toon. We'll see how those new Shield Tankers last, especially those that do not normally play Tankers. I think it takes a certain type of person to play Tanks and actually like it. It's slow leveling (unless you know how to run your own teams), so it starts to feel like pulling teeth after a while.

Definitely not for the faint of heart.

As for NeoGeode, she is a Shields and Stone Melee. I am loving the different graphic options you get for the shields. It certainly opens up options concept-wise. If they had gone the way of the broadsword, axe, and mace pre Issue 11, all the concepts will be something medieval-ish. This way, I get to be a psuedo Stone Tank =)

For her concept, I gave a kind of anime spin to her. You know, bright colors and funky hair. And I rather like the look of her.

I don't really have a background story for her. I didn't put much thought into a background story for her when I made her. But its very likely going to be something cheesy very much like the animes (not that cheesy is a bad thing, mind you!)

Don't mind me, I am just admiring myself.

City of Heroes Servers Down!

Apparently the CoH servers are down, like, right now! I suspect that it either means that issue 13 will be live once its back up or that they are jump kicking the holiday event. Either way, I'll be on tonight for some fun!

Status Update:

Many apologies for not updating. Referring to the last post, I was unable to run the test speed run. RL and all that caught up with me with Thanksgiving in between as well so I haven't been too active in Paragon City (or the Rogue Isles) too much.

I've also been cheating a bit on City of Heroes... I started playing World of Warcraft again. I am actually juggling between the two games (WoW is currently winning), but I'll most certainly dedicate some time to CoH and Paradoxic this weekned.

I promise!

The Positron Task Force Dream Team

With the advent of Issue 13 for the City of Heroes and City of Villains, there has been some initial testing done on the new rewards system by a few good folks. The details of their findings can be viewed in the official CoH site forum post.

In case you've been hiding under a rock the whole time, the number of merit rewards are based on the average completion time for the TFs. Of interest are the TFs that award the highest number of merits:
  • Positron: 55
  • Synapse: 45
  • Dr. Quaterfield: 90
  • Sara Moore: 50
  • Faathim: 55
Since I am a professed power-gaming, min-maxer, I would like to write about ways to earn merits as quickly and efficiently as possible. Please note that I am not looking to exploit the system, but rather, I am looking to maximize efficiency in merit awards with the tools provided.

Because of such, it seems as if the most "easiest" TF to "farm" is the Positron TF because there is no Arch-villain to fight and it only requires 3 people to start. Of course the caveat is while running it, you'll be stripped of much of your powers and you have to fight really annoying enemies like the Vahzihlok and the Circle of Thorn that have mostly "unresisted" damage types at the level you are exemp'ed to (level 15). The CoT in particular has some obnoxious accuracy debuffs as well. Even then, it is still possible to build a team designed specifically to speed through the TF.

Personally, I think such a dream team should consist of:
  • Kinetics Defender
  • High DPS Scrapper
  • High DPS Blaster or Scrapper
That's right. Despite my love for Tankers, having one in the Posi dream team isn't optimal because of its lower damage output relative to a Scrapper. Also, as mentioned, there is no Arch-villain in this task force so having a Tanker around isn't necessary in that aspect.

As for the proposed team build, the Kinetics Defender is the only requirement in terms of Achetype requirements. He/she is there to Speed Boost the other two team members so the endurance doesn't run low and the pace of the game play remains quick. In my opinion, the best secondary power for the Kinetics Defender is Radiation Blast for its defense debuff. But either way, the Kin can get away with just about any secondary since his/her primary role is to buff, buff, and buff!

The Scrapper acts as a tanker of sorts who absorbs the initial alpha strike while also dealing out a great deal of damage. A good primary power choice for the scrapper is Spines or Fire while the Secondary Power choices can be Will Power, Regen. The goal with this particular Scrapper is to be damage heavy, preferably with a good amount of AoEs by level 15, as well as having enough defense/resistance/regeneration to absorb the alpha strike. I do admit that I have little experience in playing Scappers, so I am sure other folks can beg to differ on my opinion as what the ideal Scrapper for the Posi Farm team should look like.

As for the Blaster, he/she serves as the primary damage dealer. The preferred Blaster Primary should most definitely be Fire Blast for its AoEs and overall damage output compared to the other primary power choices. The Secondary Power should be any that gives the Blaster the Build Up power choice by level 15. Build up is a click power that gives him/her a huge accuracy and damage buff for a few seconds.

With the Kinetics Defender feeding the two DPSers Speed Boost, having the endurance heavy, but high damage power sets is possible.

For the DPS players, the power choice for the first 15 levels should be picked with damage maximization in mind. The Kin should obviously choose all possible buffing powers in his/her primary set to help speed along the team. All players should be level 50 and exemp'ed down for the TF run and fully slotted with invention origins enhancements.

Another requirement is for a player to have Stealth/Invisibility along with Recall Friend .This is neccessary for the team to be able to stealth through certain missions to cut down on time. Stealthing requires the stealthed player to go in the mission and locate the boss or clue (depending on the mission requirement), teleport the rest of the team to the objective's location, and complete the mission. If actually dipping into the stealth pool is impossible, an alternative is to have the player with Recall Friend acquire the temporary Invisibility power that can be purchased from the auction house. In addition, that player can also have one of the unique Travel IO enhancement with +stealth to go through the mission. Also of note is that Super Speed does also grant a bit of stealthing as well. The ideal situation would be to have this player have the full invisibility power to avoid detection completely.

Fortunately for me, my character, Sixty, is a Kinetics & Psychic Blast Defender. I am doubly fortunate because I have friends who fit the Archetype criteria for the Positron Farm team and are willing to hold regular runs. We are planning a test run tomorrow to take notes.

From what I see, there is a total of 3 delivery missions and 11 door missions in the Positron TF, 5 of which are 'defeat all enemies' missions.

My personal best time for this Task Force was about 3 hours and 15 minutes. I ran it as Sixty on the 'Heroic' difficulty setting with a Sonic/Electricity Blaster and a Dark/Dark Defender. Given the fact that the team did not have the most optimal Archetypes and Power Sets, that no one had invisibility and TP to stealth the missions, that none of us was even level 50 yet (I believe I was about level 20ish at that time), and that Invention Origin sets were still a few issues away, a 3 hour finish time is pretty darn good! I do remember it being extremely exhausting because of the break neck pace of the team given my Speed Boost spamming, but it was a really satisfying TF given the record time it took us to complete it.

So now, with beefed up IOs and players with powers tailored to running the TF at max efficiency, my goal is to get it within the 2 hour mark.

Unfortunately, I just really hope that the devs don't end up lowering the merit awards once folks get too good at running the TF.

In the meantime, I'll keep you posted on how the test run goes!

Paradoxic Hits Security Level 18

Sunday was a much slower day in terms of leveling and overall gaming activity. I just ran a bunch of missions solo at my leisure and was able to get Paradoxic to level 18. It's just one of those days, I think.

Tonight's run was mostly uneventful, not that I'm complaining mind you. Of interest is the Montague Castanella story arc. In terms of the writing, its a good story, one I actually enjoyed going through.

The best (most novel) part was being able to cure the Lost with the use of a wand that is created by collecting items from the missions. I wish they had more missions like that.

Renewable Energy in the City of Heroes!

While dallying around in the City of Heroes, in Steel Canyon, I noticed this:

There are solar panels on the roof! While they probably have always been there, I just noticed them today. This is great! I think its a good idea in general just to get this idea ingrained in people's minds regardless of whether or not it was done purposely.

This makes me think about whether or not I should make a character named Renewable Energy or Solar Panel! =)

Go CoH!
